NEW ADDITIONS AT THE WHITE HOUSE ADD TO BACK TO SCHOOL EXCITEMENT
The start of a new school year always brings lots of excitement, with new shoes to be bought and pencil cases to be filled. For The White House Prep pupils, heading back to school in September, the excitement is even greater…
With their pencil cases newly stocked and shiny new shoes looking their best, pupils at The White House School in Balham, south west London, will be clamouring to get back to school this September to see the school’s new wing, which was completed during the summer holidays. As will the parents, no doubt. And there’s a new Headmaster – Tony Lewis – to get to know too.
Located in Balham, south west London, The White House Prep – a co-educational prep school for children aged 2.5-11 years – received an Outstanding rating from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in January and was named as one of the top 10 best prep schools in London by The Sunday Times.
The Grade II listed building that houses the school has just undergone significant extension with a new wing added to incorporate a larger library and more classrooms, along with a full computer suite and music room. The additional classrooms will be used to accommodate the school’s recent move into two-form entry, which is starting with their Reception cohort this September.
Speaking about this recent move, Founder & Principal Mary McCahery remarked that, due to the increase in demand and the school’s commitment to keeping class sizes small and tailored, two-form entry allows The White House to uphold its ethos while continuing to grow.
This is something new Headmaster Tony Lewis is continuing to support. Tony’s extensive experience as a Head, having previously been Headmaster at St. Nicolas Prep School in Kensington and Housemaster at Stowe, is a wonderful new addition to the school and parents and pupils alike are excited about the new appointment.

In particular, children are looking forward to the newly-introduced Headmaster Lessons, which will give Tony the opportunity to work with classes across the school: ‘From the very first moment I arrived at the school I was struck by the warmth, happiness and sense of purpose of pupils and staff alike,’ he said. ‘This is a testament to the vision and ethos of the school which is very special.’
The Autumn term is set to be a busy one with school trips, sporting fixtures and the Open Morning filling the calendar. And though the building will have changed, the inspiring well-rounded education and engaged happy children will be exactly the same.
